MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) – Work on a new portion to the Fox Cities Paper Trail is set to begin.
Pedestrians can use the new segment to safely cross the intersection of Plank Road and Oneida Street.
The trail will end at the intersection of Nature’s Way and Province Terrace, before running north and east through the Menasha Conservancy.
The 2,600-foot trail will be entirely lit and pedestrians will also have access to the Heckrodt Wetland Reserve, Jefferson Park, and downtown Menasha.
A $100,000 grant from the Fox Cities Visitor and Convention Bureau paved the way for the new portion of the trail to be developed.
Hundreds of thousands of people visit the trails every year, according to trail officials.
“It’s that crucial link that we’ve been trying to build for years and years and years,” says Menasha Mayor Don Merkes. “This grant that we got from the Fox Cities Visitors and Convention Bureau, allowed us to do that economically as well as help promote their goals of advancing tourism in the area.”
Construction will begin immediately and is set to be complete by this summer.
