GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A 48-year-old Green Bay man, initially being sought as a person of interest in the suspicious deaths of two women on Green Bay’s east side, is in custody in Arkansas. He is now the suspect of the double homicide investigation.
Green Bay Police were dispatched to a duplex in the 1600 block of Elkay Lane on Sunday, January 29, 2023, around 11:15 a.m., where a 58-year-old Green Bay woman and a 53-year-old Bellevue woman were both found deceased inside of the residence.
Police say a friend went to the residence, and upon arrival called police to report what she believed was either a suspicious death situation or an event requiring emergency medical assistance.
“As far as I know about the victims, I know they were friends and they were known to each other,” said Gary Richels, Green Bay Police Commander. “The suspect in this case was known to at least one, if not both of the victims.”
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, January 29, 2023, just before 3 p.m. during a traffic stop in Arkansas after Green Bay Police contacted law enforcement to notify them that a person of interest may be traveling through the state.
Richels said they were able to gather information at the scene that lead officers to believe the suspect left the state, and they began looking into their location.
Currently, Green Bay Police have detectives in Arkansas questioning the suspect. It is believed the suspect had been to the home before, but is not necessarily a resident there.
Green Bay Police are also working with the Brown County District Attorney’s Office on extraditable charges. The identification of the suspect will be forthcoming.
The deceased victims will not be identified until police can contact the next of kin.
Police believe this was not a random incident, and the investigation is ongoing.
