FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) – A former Ripon high school teacher was sentenced on Monday for sexual assault of a student.
29-year-old Samantha Fitzpatrick was sentenced to three years probation for having a sexual relationship with a student.
She was not sentenced to any jail time, but will have to register as a sex offender.
Prior to the sentence being issued Fitzpatrick apologized in court.
Three other counts, including child enticement, were dismissed after she previously pleaded guilty to one count of sexual assault of a student by a school staff member.
The male student was 16 at the time the encounters began, according to the criminal complaint.
Police were told by the victim that he did not have a relationship with Fitzpatrick, though another said he discussed it.
Phone records revealed that sexually explicit messages had been sent by the two.
The complaint states that a friend of Fitzpatrick’s told police she admitted to the affair.
In May of 2017 Fitzpatrick resigned from her teaching position.
