ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ) – Ashwaubenon Public Safety is reminding drivers to slow down after one of their squad cars was hit by a semi-truck Monday morning.
At 9:30 a.m. an officer was entering the intersection of Cormier Road and Ashland Avenue when a semi-truck failed to stop at a red light and struck the squad car in the driver’s door.
“When you are looking at the video it does appear that the truck was moving quite fast,” Captain Jody Crocker said. “He should have been driving under conditions where he would have been able to stop as that light was turning red.
The squad car entered the median from the impact, initially trapping the officer inside.
The officer was able to get out without any injuries.
Ashwaubenon Public safety released the video of the incident as a reminder for drivers to slow down and to drive within safe speeds to avoid accidents.
The driver of the semi-truck was cited for operating too fast for conditions.
