OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The suspect in a Neenah standoff last fall was convicted by a jury of two misdemeanor disorderly conduct counts but was acquitted on the most serious charge: a felony count of second-degree recklessly endangering safety.
The jury returned the verdicts Wednesday against Eric Vandenboogaard for the September 10th incident. He was also acquitted of operating a firearm while intoxicated.
According to the criminal complaint, Vandenboogaard and another man argued. Vandenboogaard grabbed a gun and fired it. The bullet struck a mattress. A neighbor came over and got the gun, and locked it in his safe.
Police escorted the man Vandenboogaard argued with, and his mother, out of the residence.
Eventually, Vandenboogaard was arrested. He told police he did not mean for the gun to go off and did not point it at the victim. He also told police he had perhaps 10 beers that day.
Court records do not list a sentencing date.
