ASHWAUBENON, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — An area airport is now offering student pilots a way to prepare for their FAA written exam.
Since the pandemic, it’s been difficult for local students hoping to pass their Private Pilot FAA written exam to find in-person help.
Pilotsmith at Green Bay Austin Straubel International Airport offers a Private Pilot Written Test Prep Course, designed to give student pilots all the tools and knowledge they need to pass their FAA written exam.
The 14-session class begins Tuesday, February 7, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Pilotsmith’s main location, 1911 Airport Drive. The tuition cost is $250. Required materials are an additional fee.

“Aspiring local pilots generally receive one-on-one training with flight instructors that will get them in the air and meet flight time requirements,” explains Charlie Smith, President of Pilotsmith, Inc., which operates Pilotsmith at GRB. “But when it comes to preparing for the actual FAA written exam, there hasn’t been a preparatory course offered in our area for some time, which means that aspiring pilots often have to use an online course, which can be impersonal and very confusing.”
And for those interested in also becoming a drone pilot, there will be four optional sessions to prepare for the remote pilot FAA test.
