KAUKAUNA, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — A project to replace a corroded section of wastewater pipe is almost ready for bids.
The Heart of the Valley Metropolitan Sewerage District plans to install a liner along 5.5 miles of concrete pipe. The pipe, called an interceptor, carries wastewater to the treatment plant along the Fox River.
Surface corrosion was discovered during a routine video inspection of the pipe, which was installed in 1977.
“The new liner is resistant to acid, which has caused the corrosion,” HOVMSD director Brian Helminger said in a news release. “The corrosion threatens the longevity of the pipe; without action now, there will be more extensive damage over time which will be more costly to repair.”
Construction is expected to begin after a contractor is selected this spring.
Strategic Municipal Services of Plymouth is the project’s lead engineer.
The Heart of the Valley Metropolitan Sewerage District treats wastewater from Kaukauna, Little Chute, Kimberly, Combined Locks and the Darboy Sanitary District. It also treats septic and holding tank wastes trucked in from the town of Kaukauna, Buchanan, Vandenbroek, Freedom and Harrison.
