The Green Bay Phoenix women’s basketball team’s impressive run continued with it’s most impressive victory yet on Saturday, beating Horizon League leading Cleveland State on the Lady Vikings floor Saturday afternoon 82-65. It was GB’s 11th consecutive victory and it snapped Cleveland State’s 15 game run. Natalie McNeal led GB with 14 points off the bench. Julia Hartwig had a career high 14 points and with 10 rebounds, recorded the first double-double of her career. Green Bay held Cleveland State to 30.8 percent shooting to improve to 14-3 on the year, 7-1 in the Horizon which now shares first place with the Vikings. The winning streak has been fueled by outstanding defensive work. The Lady Phoenix rank 12th nationally, allowing just 53.9 points per game and they are the 6th best team in the country in field goal percentage defense at 33.2%. GB returns home to face another challenge with 6-1 Youngstown State coming to the Kress Center on Friday.
The Green Bay men on the other hand, fell to Northern Kentucky at the Resch Center Saturday night 74-63. Randy Tucker led the Phoenix with 14 points. GB falls to 1-7 in the Horizon League, 2-17 overall. They’ll continue their homestand also hosting Youngstown State on Thursday night.
