GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The guests have arrived at the newly reopened Hotel Northland.
A welcome was provided by the staff of the Hotel Northland, complete with cheering and clapping as guests walked in with their bags.
One of those guests, and the first to check in, Green Bay Mayor Jim Schmitt and his wife.
“I’m checking in,” Schmitt said as he carried his luggage to the front desk. “I was honored when they called and I had every intention of staying here.”
More than a decade in the making, the restoration of Green Bay’s historic Hotel Northland is officially complete. Hotel Northland GM John Williams says many have been waiting for this moment.
“We worked very, very hard to bring this hotel back to life on a very short time frame.”
Schmitt says through the process he has heard about the memories that people have of the old hotel.
“Now our job is to create those memories for people for the next 100 years.”
Instead of a ribbon cutting, staff and guests officially opened the doors with a champagne toast.
Now Green Bay is home to the first Mariot Autograph Collection hotel in the State.
Joseph Shurmur, Vice President of Greenwood Hospitality Group was there for the opening.
Guests started checking in at 3:00 p.m.
