LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) – First they learned how now they are teaching.
Students in the Little Chute Career Pathways Academy have a goal to reach out to the public and teach them the life-saving hands-only CPR skills that they learned earlier this year.
To kick off their public outreach, students offered training to people in attendance at the JV and Varsity basketball games Monday night.
Junior Marley Johnson says it is an opportunity to make a difference, and the skills are not complicated.
“I haven’t had any CPR training my entire life, and I thought it was really broken down so everyone got it.”
Johnson says the skills are easy to learn and feels that in the short time that she trained, she would have the knowledge to perform the life-saving measure.
“If I had a dummy right in front of me, I would be able to do it, or I honestly could do it without a dummy.”
She adds that she has a goal to make a difference and says saving someone’s life fits the bill.
“We are trying to reach out to the public around us to see if they want to learn.”
Johnson says Career Pathways Academy challenges you to get out of your comfort zone, and be willing to take risks.
“One of these risks was getting out into the community.”
More events are expected to be planned.
“We were talking about setting up booths at festivals or doing skits.”
The group will continue to come up with opportunities to share what they learned with the public.
