NEENAH, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – Neenah-Menasha Fire says when there’s an emergency, every minute matters.
After plenty of recent snow, the department encouraged people to dig out their fire hydrants, with a sugary incentive.
Multiple winter storms have dropped several inches of snow across Northeast Wisconsin, making for dangerous conditions outside of your daily commute.
It’s why Neenah-Menasha Fire captain Troy Jahns tells FOX 11 residents should take a look at their area fire hydrants.
“With the recent snowfall that we’ve had hydrants get covered easily. And often times people aren’t aware of how important it is to have a hydrant clear.”
Jahns says for those willing to grab their shovels and dig those hydrants out, hard work can be turned into a sweet treat
“If they’ve done a good and complete job we’ll issue them a coupon for a free blizzard at one of the Neenah Dairy Queen.”
Inspired by Fond du Lac’s Fire Department, Neenah-Menasha’s partnership with the city’s Dairy Queen locations kept them handing out coupons all afternoon.
Neenah Dairy Queen owner Jim Reiser says he’s grateful for the opportunity to work with crews that keep people safe.
“The community built our business,” said Reiser. “And that’s one of our sayings is that we need to support our community and give back.”
Giving back, with a blizzard no one will have a problem disposing of.
