GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Police Department is reporting that one man has been arrested in connection with the murder of Tavarious Edwards.
32-year-old Brion Hatcher was booked into the Brown County Jail on a charge of first-degree intentional homicide.
Hatcher was arrested in connection with the January 27th shooting at a home on George Street, on the city’s east side.
“We began our investigation, we conducted more than twenty-five interviews, watched hours of surveillance video, [and] submitted forensic evidence to the Wisconsin State Crime Lab,” says Green Bay Police Chief Andrew Smith.
The department says all the evidence collected pointed towards one individual.
“We gathered evidence and we began our investigation into this right away and all the evidence collectively led to the arrest of Mr. Hatcher,” he explains.
Hatcher was first taken into custody on February 11.
“Since then we’ve built up enough evidence, we believe we have sufficient evidence to file charges for first-degree intentional homicide,” says Chief Smith.
On Tuesday, bond for Hatcher was set at $2 million cash in Brown County court.
“We believe this was a targeted incident and it was based on a dispute that these two individuals had with each other,” says Chief Smith.
Witnesses told authorities Hatcher believed Edwards stole $1,000 from him, according to the criminal complaint.
However, Hatcher denied having any problem with Edwards or involvement in his murder when speaking with police.
The nature of this incident leads police to believe it was a separate dispute between these two individuals.
They are not continuing an investigation into any further suspects.
“We believe this was a dispute between these two individuals that culminated in this homicide,” says Chief Smith.
Edwards died from a gunshot wound in the neck.
Hatcher is due back in court on March 12.
