OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – A state prison employee was charged on Tuesday following a standoff with police last week in Neenah.
Daniel Maher is a Correctional Sergeant at Oshkosh Correctional Institution and faces three charges from the incident: threat to a law enforcement officer, failure to comply with an officer’s attempt to take into custody, and disorderly conduct.
Maher is expected to make an initial appearance on Tuesday afternoon in Winnebago County court.
He’s currently on leave without pay.
Maher was intoxicated and threatening to harm his girlfriend, so others in the house called the police and his girlfriend left and met with officers, according to the criminal complaint. The police were then called to the house.
“Maher refused to go outside and stated that he would shoot anyone that came into his house,” the criminal complaint states.
After police entered the home and took him into custody a search resulted in the discovery of a rifle, shotgun, and ammunition.
The police activity forced Neenah’s Horace Mann Middle School to cancel classes on Thursday.
