SUAMICO, WI (WTAQ) – The family of a woman who was fatally shot in a domestic violence incident Monday has released a statement.
The Brown County Sheriff’s Office says 34-year-old Brooke Fontaine was shot in a house in the 2000 block of Mystic Hills Terrace in Suamico.
The shooting was reported around 2:30 a.m.; Fontaine died at the hospital around 7 a.m.
Her family shared this statement Tuesday afternoon:
“We wish to express our appreciation for the outpouring of support we have received during this difficult time. Brooke was, and is, very loved. We are grateful that her two children are safe, and we will continue to love and care for them. As we continue to process what has happened, grieve, and find our path forward from here, we ask that you respect our privacy. Thank you again for your kind words and understanding.”
The father of one of Fontaine’s children, Sebastian Royal, is suspected of shooting her before turning the gun on himself. He died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said.
Officials said Royal went to the home and began shooting at the bedroom of Fontaine’s 4-year-old child from a previous relationship.
Investigators said Fontaine and Royal were involved in a custody dispute in Outagamie County over the couple’s 14-month-old child.
