GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Republican’s say Governor Tony Evers decision to veto the Middle-Class Tax Cut is Disappointing
Assembly Majority Leader Jim Steineke says Governor Evers put politics above policy when he vetoed the Middle Class Tax Cut that got bipartisan support.
“The only thing that we did that we did not agree with in his package was how we paid for it,” Steineke said. “He paid for it by raising taxes on other people.”
Steineke says their plan was able to provide the cut to Middle class without harming small businesses and job creators and it is not right to increase tax on some to provide a cut for others.
“If the Governor’s idea of bipartisanship is you take it as I present it or I am going to veto it, well then that is going to be problematic and difficult to work with.”
He says they are still committed to finding paths to common ground and compromise.
“What everybody hopes for is that everybody gets a little something and gives a little something, and that is what bipartisanship is all about.”
Steineke says no matter what, they are not going to agree to raise taxes on people.
