GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – With winter nowhere near complete, taking care of your gas meter can save you money and save your life.
Wisconsin Public Service is encouraging customers to check and clear snow and ice from natural gas meters.
“Build of snow and ice on the natural gas meter can damage the piping on that meter and that could potentially cause a natural gas leak.”
Spokesperson Matt Cullen says it can also cause a safety hazard.
“A buildup could cause your appliance vent and that could lead to carbon monoxide being trapped inside your home.”It is recommended to clear snow and ice by using either a broom or your gloved hand to avoid any damage.
