GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – This week is National Consumer Protection Week and the Better Business Bureau is once again stressing safety.
“It is just sort of an awareness of being mindful and being a smart consumer and making wise choices.”
With winter slowly fading away, March marks a time that people start making lots of purchases online, and need to keep safety in mind. Susan Bach, of the Better Business Bureau, says a strong password and two-step authentication is a good start.
“A fingerprint or a face scan or sometimes that is a unique one time code that they send to your smartphone.”
Bach says it is just one more verification that you are who you are.
And when you do make purchases, even though it is convenient, don’t fall for the trap of letting the site store your financial information for next time.
“It just makes it easier for hackers to access billing, shipping information, and account information. Overall the Better Business Bureau says it is important to be careful who you trust.
“People online are constantly impersonating other people,” she says. “You really have to be careful who you are trusting online.”
Online imposters were one of the top concerns in 2018.
