PULASKI, WI (WTAQ) – Paczki Day at Smurawa’s Bakery in Pulaski was as busy as expected.
Before the bakery doors opened, many were waiting outside ready to get the first Paczkis of the day.
Owner Greg Smurawa and his staff worked all day Monday and early Tuesday knowing just what to expect.
“It is all about getting the people, rather it is a six pack or six dozen, it is all about getting the people the best Paczki in the state of Wisconsin.”
Not only does Smurawa’s follow a popular recipe, but they also have a strong tradition in Northeast Wisconsin and connection to the customer.
“They are taking something that we hand create, a part of us and something that the good lord blessed us to be able to do, and they are taking it home and sharing it with their family, and that is pretty darn important.”
With 17 flavors to choose from, once again this year, their most popular flavor filling remained at the top of the pre-order lists.
“Raspberry is always the most popular, so we keep ahead of those.”
That high demand for paczki led to one change from recent years.
“This is the first year where we had to cut off pre-orders because it is a labor thing.”
Smurawa says he wanted to make sure his staff got home to get rest before paczki day.
Smurawa’s sells paczki’s all year long, but say there is something about having a paczki on Paczki Day.
