BARRON, WI (WTAQ) – Residents of Barron will have the opportunity to attend a town hall discussion being hosted by a child kidnapping survivor.
Elizabeth Smart was abducted at the age of 14 in Salt Lake City back in 2002 and is now an accomplished author and speaker.
It was announced on Wednesday that she’ll be hosting the event, which will take place on March 15 at the Barron Area Community Center.
Smart is set to talk about her own experiences and how the Barron community can start to heal and move forward.
13-year-old Jayme Closs was kidnapped in October after her parents were killed in Barron County.
Closs is currently recovering with her family after breaking away from her kidnapper three months later.
21-year-old Jake Patterson is being charged by prosecutors with Closs’ abduction and her parents’ deaths.
