GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Lieutenant Governor Mandela Barnes was at Northeast Wisconsin Technical College on Wednesday afternoon to tour their Great Lakes Energy Education Center, which was built last year.
The center houses the college’s renewable energy program and Barnes spoke afterward regarding new funding for technical colleges and renewable energy offered in Governor Tony Evers’ proposed budget.
He touched on the state’s opportunity to become a national leader in the field of renewable energy.
“We can create a model for other states across this country, and I’m happy, very excited for the opportunity to lead that charge; but we know that we cannot get this done on our own, it’s going to take instructors, it’s going to take the educational opportunities across the state, it’s going to take the wonderful students,” Barnes says.
There’s $18 million in new funding included in the proposed budget for the state’s technical colleges and offers incentives for renewable energy projects.
