GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A late night shooting in Green Bay has resulted in a man being taken into custody.
According to Green Bay Police, they received reports of several shots being fired in the 1300 block of S. Taylor St. around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.
Four to six gunshots were heard and a dark-colored vehicle left the scene, according to witnesses.
Upon arrival, police were directed by those in the area.
“People that heard the shots were able to point out a car and also shell casings in the parking lot of an apartment building there,” says Commander Paul Ebel, with the Green Bay Police Department. “The car had bullet holes in it.”
At this time, police are able to confirm that this was a targeted incident.
“It was targeted at this particular person’s vehicle, we can say that,” says Commander Ebel.
No one was injured in the incident.
Next up was an exercise of connecting the dots.
“Good old-fashioned police work,” explains Commander Ebel. “They dug into the persons of whose car that was, looked at their associates and who they associate with.”
That work led officers to make contact with a man in the 1100 block of E. Walnut Street after gathering information at the scene.
“When officers approached a male subject took off running with a handgun in his hand and officers pursued on foot,” he says. “With the help of a K-9 [they] were able to take the person into custody.”
Commander Ebel explains the next step moving forward.
“That person is currently in jail on a probation hold and we will be referring charges over on Monday to the District Attorney’s Office for this individual,” he says.
The department is not looking for additional suspects and the public is not in any danger going forward.
