GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The deadline for permanent ice shanties to be removed is drawing near, but the DNR says don’t wait until the last minute.
Shanties from waters north of Highway 64 and all other outlying waters need to be removed by the end of the day on Sunday, March 17.
State officials say warm temperatures could create potential obstacles and it’s a better idea to get them down sooner than later.
Call the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Violation Hotline at (1-800-TIP-WDNR or 1-800-847-9367) if you miss the deadline and provide a status report of ongoing attempts to remove, as well as a shelter location.
The removal of shanties will help eliminate spring shoreline litter and boating dangers in the spring.
Portable ice fishing shelters can still be used daily by anglers if they feel the ice is safe after the deadline.
