GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Green Bay Police Department was active over the weekend as their OWI Task Force saw an uptick in traffic stops and citations.
Green Bay PD says, over the weekend, task force officers made 10 OWI arrests, 92 traffic stops, 8 drug arrests, 5 misdemeanor arrests (non-traffic), 1 felony arrest, 53 traffic citations, 111 warnings for traffic offenses, and 4 warrant arrests.
Green Bay Police Lieutenant Brad Strouf says some of those numbers stand out.
“I think the total number of traffic stops at 92 was probably more than what was expected.”
He says he is surprised and disappointed since people planning on going out had plenty of warning and options available.
“In this day in age with ridesharing and public transportation options, it concerns me that we are still taking in 10 people in an 8 hour period.”
He says did they did not hide the fact that they were going to be out in stronger force for St. Patrick’s Day.
“There is a time a place for education and time and place for enforcement. The warnings beforehand are the education and when it comes right down to it, 15 officers were deployed, the intent there is enforcement and that is what they did.”
Green Bay officers not involved in the task force made an additional 3 OWI arrests over the weekend.
