OCONTO COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) – An 18-year-old Oconto County man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to reckless homicide and four other counts after crashing his vehicle and killing 14-year-old September Deneys on Dec. 14 in the town of Abrams.
Cade Wied will return to court on May 6 for a pre-trial conference and no trial date has been set.
The vehicle allegedly driven by Wied left the roadway and struck two trees before coming to rest, according to the criminal complaint.
While the speed limit in the area was 45-miles-per-hour, Wied claims he was driving around 55 miles-per-hour.
The car was actually traveling around 88-miles-per-hour, according to data recovered from the car.
Wied admitted he was driving the night of the crash, but in an interview a few days later, claimed the girl who died was really the driver.
However, another passenger says Wied was driving, according to the complaint.
