GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – Many Green Bay residents have felt overwhelmed in the past week as they pick up the pieces following extensive flooding of the East River.
Organizations such as the Red Cross and Salvation Army have opened their doors and made resources available to flooding victims, but the task of knowing where to start can be difficult itself.
Joe, who didn’t wish to provide his full name, lives on Charles Street, just off of East Mason Street, and says city officials have been to his home almost every day since flooding took place.
He’s found it hard to get much assistance since he left home last Friday.
“The first couple of days I tried and didn’t receive much,” he explains.
For him, half the battle is knowing where to go for help, since the list of work facing him is so expansive.
“If I have questions I ask them, I just don’t know what questions to ask or what steps to take [or] any of that stuff,” he explains.
It was announced on Friday that Brown County Emergency Management and the Green Bay Metro Fire Dept are teaming up to help flood victims, like Joe, get the information and assistance that they need.
They say any residents affected by the East River flood can call 2-1-1 from any phone if they wish to receive volunteer assistance.
For some residents, a set of extra helping hands could go a long way considering the amount of work that still remains.
For Joe, there’s a laundry list of equipment that needs to be replaced and labor needed to make it all happen.
“Furnace, the electrical panel, hot water heater, gas,” he explains. “All the electrical got fried, probably some foundation work.”
Also, volunteer organizations interested in helping others can call 2-1-1 too.
