MENOMINEE, MI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The Detroit Lions and the Green Bay Packers have played each other 184 times in the regular season heading into Sunday’s matchup at Lambeau Field, and the rivalry between the two teams is one of the richest in the league.
An hour-drive north of Green Bay in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula finds a possible border battle brewing.
Even days before kickoff, fans inside Schooner Pub and Grill in Menominee, Mich. are getting ready.
“It can get pretty tense at times because, obviously, you have the Packers fans. We’re in Michigan; you have the Lions fans. It’s a rivalry, and it’s interesting,” said Boni Kraemer-Powell, Schooner Pub and Grill Co-Owner.
Packers and Lions fan will talk with each other, but it’s easy for them to start thinking about the matchup.
“I think it’s going to be a really good game. It’s probably going to be a tight game. It’s probably going to be a mean game. But I can’t wait to see it. I will be right in front of that television screaming and yelling all the way,” said Tammie White, Lions fan.
“It’s kind of a mutual respect thing. Campbell is going to make the Lions a decent team, but, hopefully, it’s not this year,” said Mark Franzen, Packers fan.
If the Packers win, they are in the playoffs. The Lions need to beat the Packers and have the Seattle Seahawks lose to the Los Angeles Rams to make it to the postseason.
“It just depends on what happens to the Seahawks game, but I think the Lions can pull it off, because they beat Green Bay earlier in the year. I think the Lions are going to win probably by a touchdown,” said Alyssa Bayerl, Lions fan.
“I’d like to see Crosby kick the game winner because he might retire next year. I say 24-23, Packers,” said Fred Hofer, Packers fan.
“I guess, either way, it’s a win-win situation. Being from Wisconsin, I’m a Packers fan, but now that I live in Michigan, Detroit Lions? Whoever wins, best luck to the best team,” said Kraemer-Powell.
The Packers lead the overall series 103-74-7.
