MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) – Despite the continued efforts of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, water levels remain high on Lake Winnebago.
In fact, officials say due to continued snowmelt in the region that water levels continue to rise.
According to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the water level has risen by 1.92 feet since the lake was drawn down to 1.4 feet at an Oshkosh observation site in February.
The Corps’ measured 3.30 feet on Friday, which is 1.5 feet higher than their target level for this time of the year.
The Neenah Dam remains mostly open and gates of the Menasha Dam have remained open for the past few weeks.
To prevent immediate flooding downstream of the dam, two needle gates of the Neenah Dam remain closed.
The good news is that water flow has slowed down and most of the snowpack has melted, which makes officials optimistic that water levels could be on the decline as soon as this weekend.
