TOWN OF ELAND, WI (WTAQ) -Two teens were injured after leading law enforcement on a chase through two counties Friday afternoon.
After a routine traffic stop attempt in Marathon County, Shawano County Sheriff Detective Mike Wizner said the vehicle took off and crossed into Shawano County before crashing on Highway 45 in the Eland Township.
“They at some point discontinued their pursuit and our deputy came across the vehicle and went nine and half miles down Highway 45.” He says the situation really escalated. “Speeds at one time reached speeds up to 100 mph. The vehicle ended up crashing and that started a small fire.”
Wizner said crashing is never a good outcome, but the situation that was occurring was far from safe.
“With the speeds and the fact that we are dealing with 16 to 18-year-old kids with little experience behind the wheel and the volume of traffic and weather conditions.”
Both teens were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries and charges will be referred to social services in Shawano County.
