TOWN OF FRIENDSHIP, WI (WTAQ) – Rescue crews were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to save a kayaker from the waters of Lake Winnebago.
Crews were called out to the area of Lakeshore Drive and Cottage Lane in the town of Friendship around 3 p.m. following reports of a kayaker that overturned their vessel without wearing a life jacket, according to the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
It was confirmed by deputies upon arrival that the 40-year-old Fond du Lac man was not able to get back to shore due to high winds and waves.
Inflatable boats were used by first responders from Van Dyne and Fond du Lac to save the man.
In order to help crews find the kayaker and then take the kayak back to shore a bystander used their own boat.
The man suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
