OCONTO, WI (WTAQ) – The city of Oconto’s sewer system has reached capacity, which is forcing them to discharge sanitary sewage into the Oconto River.
The city says this is being done as a proactive measure to prevent backups into numerous homes and buildings.
The sewage is flowing into the river near the Collins Avenue Bridge.
Due to recent rainfall, the capacity levels are high.
The city says they are in contact with the Department of Natural Resources and this is not a state of emergency.
