GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — The Green Bay Metro Fire Department is sending its fire chief off into retirement in a big way.
After 41 years of service, Fire Chief David Litton retired Friday.
The community celebrated Litton and his accomplishments at Green Bay City Hall.
Chief Litton was hired as the fire chief of Green Bay Metro Fire Department in July of 2013.
The department says during his time in Green Bay, he made exemplary improvements to emergency response times, collaboratively led the department to a No. 1 Public Protection Classification rating from the Insurance Services Office, and prioritized safety for firefighters to help reduce exposure to carcinogens.
Although Litton is leaving, he had one request for the department.
“Get a new fire station built. Get Station #1 and Station #3 replaced.” said Litton. ” Make a facility that’s right for our personnel. I know you will, I just want to remind you of it.”
Matthew Knott was announced as Green Bay’s next fire chief earlier this month.
