GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The Greater Green Bay Community Foundation says they are the lucky recipients of recent major donations which will go to help a number of local causes.
They’ve received more than $21 million in donations and one of the two donations came from the estate of Ron C. and Pauline P. Heim, whose gift is worth $16.5 million.
That donation will provide more than $800,000 per year to more than 30 nonprofit organizations.
Some of the various causes which will be supported include animal welfare and police K-9 units to the environment, education, hunger, and homelessness.
The Heims’ donation continues the funding of causes the couple quietly supported during their lifetimes, according to foundation leaders.
“We are humbled by the generosity of the Heims’ gift to our community,” says Dennis Buehler, president and CEO of the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation, in a news release. “Through careful planning with their estate attorney, they ensured the impact of their gift will be felt today, as well as by every future generation of this community.”
The couple founded the industrial coating company Trowelon, Inc, according to Pauline Heim’s obituary. Ron Heim died in 1992, while Pauline Heim died in January 2018.
A second donation worth $5 million was provided anonymously to the foundation and the funds are unrestricted, meaning the foundation can use them to support whichever causes it likes.
“It’s important to be forward thinking with any unrestricted gift,” says Mark Radtke, Greater Green Bay Community Foundation board chair, in a news release. “And we embrace the enormous responsibility that comes with it to ensure the gift makes the greatest impact possible.”
The Greater Green Bay Foundation has distributed nearly $9 million in grants to local nonprofit organizations over the past year.
