RHINELANDER, WI (WTAQ) – The opening of some campgrounds and recreation trails at Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest are being delayed due to water and snow.
They say snowpack is stubbornly sticking around and high waters are popping up after recent rain.
The typical opening dates are in early May, but crews have not been able to prepare the grounds.
“We recognize that visitors will be disappointed, we are monitoring conditions and working to get trails and the remaining campgrounds open as soon as possible,” says Tim Vetter, Recreation, Wilderness & Lands Program Manager for the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, in a news release. “The Forest will reassess trail and campground conditions on May 1 and provide a status update to our website.”
Updates on facility openings can be found on the forest’s website.
