WAUSAU, WI (WSAU-WAOW) – Around 450 people took part in the 5th annual Wausau Marathon Saturday despite the rain.
The 26.2 mile course is relatively flat and begins at Marathon Park, going through Schofield, Weston, Kronenwetter, and Rothschild as well. It is recognized by USA Track and Field, and race director Scott Liegl told Newsline 9 that the marathon serves as prep for other major competitions.
“We’re the second to last northern qualifier for the Boston Marathon before registration opens in September,” Liegl said. “So we have a lot of runners who want to come out to do that.”
A half-marathon, 5K and a kids fun run were also held Saturday.
