MANITOWOC COUNTY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – The push is on to get annual vehicle admission sticker for state parks, forests, and other properties.
“Yes. As soon as November came, everyone’s been asking about the 2023 stickers,” said Quinn Henseler, Point Beach State Forest Park Ranger.
From the 127 campsites, to the 11 miles of trails, to Lake Michigan sand and surf that seem to stretch on and on, officials say Point Beach State Forest has a lot to offer.
“On a yearly basis, we get about 350,000 visitors. That includes day users, as well as campers. To be on any state park, or forest property, you need to have a vehicle admission sticker. That would include the yearly stickers, which are good for the calendar year,” said Erin Dembski-Rodriguez, Point Beach State Forest Natural Resource Property Supervisor.
State park admission stickers went on sale November 25. The annual cost to a Wisconsin resident is $28. The typical daily fee is $8. Stickers are available online, through the mail or during office hours at places like Point Beach State Forest near Two Rivers. Park rangers say it’s been very busy.
“The main business in the park right now, is people coming in, and buying like bulk purchases for the whole families, getting these stickers out, because everybody loves to get them for Christmas,” said Henseler.
According to the Department of Natural Resources, the 60-plus state parks are popular places. .
“A lot of people have discovered that there’s more outdoors that they didn’t realize. I think they’ve gotten off their electronics, and I think that they’ve been able to see the opportunities at properties,” said Dembski-Rodriguez.
Officials say there were about 20 million visitors to the entire system in 2021, which is up from 17 million in a typical year.
