Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst hinted strongly during the draft that the team would excercise the fifth year option on defensive tackle Kenny Clark’s contract.
It became official on Wednesday.
Clark, the first round draft choice in 2016, received a four year rookie contract with a fifth year option and the Packers will take him up on that extra year keeping him under contract through the 2020 season.
One of the ascending young players on the Packers roster, Clark produced a career high six quarterback sacks last season, to go along with eight tackles for losses before his season was cut short after 13 games with an elbow injury.
If the former UCLA product remains a key player on the Packer defense, it’s almost a certainty the Packers will renegotiate a longer, much more lucrative extension before the 2020 season is complete.
