GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A man has been charged in connection to starting a fire inside of an Allouez church and vandalizing a number of nearby homes.
18-year-old Mackenzie Guillen faces three counts of criminal damage to property, one count of arson and one count of burglary.
In court, a $10,000 cash bond was set and he was ordered not to have contact with the church and homeowners.
Guillen spent about two hours inside St. Matthews Church/School on Webster Avenue, according to court documents.
He allegedly set fire to papers and walked away after smashing vases and scattered various items.
He left with a wine bottle and later threw it through the window of a Beaumont Street home, according to police.
Guillen also threw rocks at the window of a different home on Webster Avenue before throwing a chair and ringing the doorbell at a home on Riverside Drive, according to the criminal complaint.
The Riverside Dr. homeowner claims that Guillen appeared disoriented and told him to call police, before walking away.
Police arrested Guillen a short time later and according to the criminal complaint they were able to link him to all four crimes through surveillance video inside the church, doorbell video from homes in the area, and the clothes he was wearing that night.
Guillen told police after being taken into custody that he threw a chair at a house because he was mad.
The complaint states that he told police he didn’t want to talk about why he was mad and went on to reveal that he’d been homeless for a couple of months after his sister kicked him out for not taking his medications.
Guillen would not answer any further questions about the incidents and he is due back in court May 23.
