APPLETON, WI (WTAQ) – A fire at an Appleton apartment building caused an estimated $40,000 worth of damage Wednesday evening.
The Appleton Fire Department responded to a call at a 12-unit apartment building on Woodmere Court shortly after 6:30 p.m. They were informed that the fire was in the kitchen of a second-floor apartment and that the resident was out of the apartment.
Upon arrival, crews found smoke and fire coming from a second story window.
The fire was contained to just one apartment.
The Appleton Fire Department says the fire was knocked down within 15 minutes.
The apartment fire is the third red bulb on the fire department’s Christmas wreath to raise awareness of home fires this holiday season.
Following the apartment fire, the department is reminding people to remain in the kitchen while cooking.
