UW-Green Bay Announces Fall Semester Commencement Speakers

GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) — UW-Green Bay’s largest fall graduating class will hear from two Wisconsin leaders to inspire them as they cross the stage.

Students graduating from associate, undergraduate and graduate programs will hear from Green Bay Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy and former Lt. Gov. Barbara Lawton on Dec. 17.

Murphy, who is in his 15th year as president and CEO of the Packers, has dedicated his NFL career to success on and off the field.

While leading one of the NFL’s premier franchises, Murphy has also served on UWGB’s Council of Trustees. He also helps lead the Packers Give Back program, which has an annual charitable impact of more than $9 million in the community.

Murphy will speak at the second ceremony with graduates from the school of business and the College of Science, Engineering and Technology.

Lawton — the first woman elected lieutenant governor in Wisconsin — will speak at the earlier graduation ceremony, which will include graduates from the College of Health, Education and Social Welfare as well as the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences.

Lawton attended UWGB during the bay campus’ first semester, though she did ultimately graduate from Lawrence University in Appleton.

Lawton served as lieutenant governor from 2003 to 2011 under Gov. Jim Doyle. She spent much of her career working to increase leadership, economic and educational opportunities for women.

Among her many accomplishments includes founding the Greater Green Bay Community Foundation and the Green Bay Area Multicultural Center.

Of the record-breaking graduating class, more than 350 have signed up to cross the stage.
