GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – The results of a community-wide survey regarding enrollment and facility needs within the district has been released by the Green Bay Area Public School District.
More than 2,300 Green Bay residents participated in the survey, while 73% agree with making moderate changes to high school boundaries, while only 21% disagreed.
“There were some parameters to that — one is to not redraw all of the boundaries — but if we can give some relief to some schools and use those empty seats, or other students, that was the most popular response to that,” says Board President Brenda Warren.
Yet, there could still be some pushback if the board decides to change the boundaries, according to Warren.
“Well, it’s disruptive to families, they get attached to their school. They move into a neighborhood and think they’re going to go to a particular school, that’s probably the downside to doing this,” she says.
But, board members must come up with a plan to present to the public, before any changes can be made.
“Some of these plans will include some remodeling and construction so there might be a referendum attached to these plans,” explains Warren.
According to her, the hope is to have things settled by this fall.
