HOWARD, WI (WTAQ-WLUK) – For fifteen years, an annual motorcycle ride has made a difference in the lives of cancer patients in Northeast Wisconsin.
Jerry Parins “Cruise for Cancer” distributed checks Wednesday to ten area organizations for their efforts to beat cancer:
HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Foundation
Bellin Health Foundation
Unity Hospice
HSHS St. Vincent’s Child Life
Colton’s Cure
Angel Classic
Ovarian Cancer Community Outreach
HSHS St. Vincent/St. Mary’s Women’s Health Boutique
Ribbon of Hope Foundation
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
Last year’s motorcycle ride and other events helped raise $154,000 for the cancer organizations.
Parins was a former Green Bay police officer and Green Bay Packer’s director of security when he was diagnosed with cancer.
This year’s Cruise for Cancer ride will take place Saturday, June 8.
The 16th annual ride will be called the Hall of Fame ride, in honor of Parins receiving the Bob Harlan Award at the Packers Hall of Fame Induction Banquet.
Event organizers say they will look back at all the families that have been honored over the past 16 years and induct them into the Jerry Parins Cruise for Cancer Hall of Fame.
