MENASHA, WI (WTAQ) – The Menasha Police Department says they are referring charges against a man that was involved in a nearly 11-hour standoff early Wednesday morning.
Charges of domestic disorderly conduct, failure to comply, and first-degree recklessly endangering safety are being recommended by authorities against 35-year-old Christopher Walsh.
Police say late Tuesday night, the mother of a 15-month-old girl told police that the father of her child started talking about her poisoning a bottle for their child and then got a gun from the bedroom. The mother said that Walsh waived the gun around and threatened that he would shoot officers if they showed up.
The woman told police that Walsh was using drugs prior to the incident.
She was able to get out of the house when police arrived and Walsh opened the door pretending that nothing was wrong.
After not having contact with Walsh for several hours, authorities sent a robot into the home. Negotiators were able to talk to Walsh throughout the morning hours while he held the child close to him and continued to threaten to shoot officers, police say.
After nearly 11 hours, Walsh agreed to place the child in an open window for officers to take the child to safety and then surrendered.
Walsh was taken to the Winnebago County Jail.
Formal charges have not been filed.
