GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – It’s “go” time for organizers of the 2019 Bellin Run, with race day less than a week away.
Tents are already being set-up in preparation for Saturday mornings 10K.
10K representing the distance of the race and also, roughly, the number of participants.
“We are now over 10,000 participants,” explains spokesperson Kelly McBride Moore. “We’re at 10,079 and those are right on par with what we’d expect to see.”
Those numbers are for Saturday mornings race, but technically events get underway starting on Thursday.
The Bellin Charity Fun Run is Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., while Friday is jam-packed with activities, including a Health & Fitness Expo, Children’s Run, and Spaghetti Dinner.
Because of that, organizers are even more pressed to get the area set-up starting soon.
“It really is all hands on deck, but it’s a really exciting time too,” says McBride Moore.
More volunteers are being sought out to help in a number of different ways.
People are needed Saturday to work hydration stations and pass out post-race food, but they also are looking for volunteers on Friday too.
For those nervous about the large participation numbers and what it might mean for parking, organizers recommend letting them shuttle you to and from the race site.
“You come down, you leave your car, you hop on a shuttle, and it’ll take you right to Astor Park,” she explains. “And then it’ll take you back again.”
The shuttle buses will be operating from two different locations in downtown Green Bay.
“Just across from the Hyatt Regency in downtown Green Bay,” explains McBride Moore. “Also, North Madison Street, just south of the WPS parking lots.”
The shuttles will run from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. bringing people to the race and then steadily from 9 a.m. to noon bringing people back downtown.
In terms of final numbers though, McBride Moore says they only can go up as registration continues throughout the week.
“[It’s] thirty-five-dollars too sign up now thru midnight Thursday online,” she says. “And then it’s forty-dollars to sign up in person on Friday.”
