GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) – A Howard man charged with auto theft is set to go to trial.
James Nys is facing nine misdemeanor counts of theft by false representation and will go to trial on August 14.
Court records show he previously pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference has been set for July 29.
According to officers, Nys would test drive vehicles being sold privately, agree to buy them and then keep the vehicles without paying for them.
Police say in some cases, Nys would leave a vehicle behind as a form of collateral and come back later to get it.
Police say Nys is only targeting members of the Hispanic community.
At this time they are still trying to figure out what happened to the vehicles he stole.
