HORTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ) – The rumor of a record-breaking rattlesnake slithering around in Hortonville has been squashed by Hortonville Police.
Residents were worried after it was said that a 14-foot rattlesnake was spotted in the Village.
Police posted on their facebook page that the snake is actually a 3 to 4 foot long Fox snake or Pine snake.
They say that there was rumor that the snake was released from a neighborhood into the wild, but that is also not true.
Fox snakes are common in the area and they are not venomous.
Residents reported that the snake was making a rattling sound. DNR officials say that is also very common when a Fox snake feels threatened.
Two local DNR wardens responded to the location and we were unable to locate the snake.
