LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) – The Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an officer-involved shooting over the weekend.
Shiocton police responded to a domestic disturbance between a husband and wife Sunday afternoon.
Police were called to the residence and the 43-year-old male suspect, Jakeus Meltz, left the scene prior to police arriving.
Around 7 p.m., Outagamie County Sheriff’s office received word that a male subject sent text messages stating that he would get in a shootout with police so police would shoot him.
The man was found near the industrial park in Little Chute.
Officials say that Meltz wasn’t following commands and at one point, he made movement toward his waist area and deputies fired shots, officials say.
Meltz was taken into custody and brought to a hospital.
His condition is listed as critical.
It has been confirmed by deputies that Meltz did have a firearm in his possession.
The deputies involved were gt. Chris De Vries, a nine-year veteran of the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office and Deputy Marvin Gramajo, who has been with the department for three years.
Both De Vries and Gramajo were not injured in the incident.
