HORTONVILLE, WI (WTAQ) – A highway project in Outagamie County that was first proposed nearly a decade ago finally has a construction date.
Governor Tony Evers, who was in Hortonville on Thursday, says the expansion on Highway 15 will start in September of 2021.
The goal is for the expansion itself to help traffic flow a little easier.
This project also calls for a new road to let drivers go around, instead of passing through, Hortonville.
Additionally, it includes two new roundabouts on the village’s east and west sides.
Governor Evers says a growing number of crashes and deaths on Highway 15 made this project a top priority for the state.
Highway 15 construction was originally scheduled to start two years ago, while the governor says he’s confident it will start on time in the fall of 2021.
“It’s one of those issues, and frankly I think it’s an outgrowth of a recent campaign for governor. Where people realized no matter whether you’re a republican or a democrat issues around safety and making sure we have a good transportation system is exceedingly important,” says Governor Evers.
If construction does start on time, the state would expect construction to wrap-up by 2024.
