OSHKOSH, WI (WTAQ) – The annual 4th of July fireworks show in Oshkosh is going to look a little different this year.
Due to road construction on Hazel Street, which is affecting access to Menominee Park, the fireworks show will move to downtown.
The fireworks will be launched from Pioneer Island and a shuttle bus will pick up spectators at the Lake Aire Plaza parking lot at the corner of Oregon Street and 20th Avenue.
Spectators will then be dropped off at the corner of S. Main Street and E. 8th Avenue.
Two buses will be running from 7 p.m. until midnight.
A map showing parking and viewing locations for this year’s show has been created by the city.
“We’re excited to try something new this year in lieu of the construction around Menominee Park,” says Parks Director Ray Maurer in a news release. “With this adjustment comes new viewing locations in the downtown area. And, thanks to additional donations received, Wolverine Fireworks will be bringing us an even bigger show than in previous years.”
Drivers, boaters, and pedestrians should be aware of bridge closures before, during, and after the show.
At 9:30 p.m. the Canadian National railroad bridge will close and the Main Street bridge will close to vehicles from 10-11 p.m.
The CN bridge will reopen after the fireworks to allow boats through.
The Oregon Street, Main Street, and Ohio Street bridges will also move into the open position for about 15-20 minutes to allow boats to clear.
They will then move into a closed position for about 30 minutes to allow vehicles and pedestrians to leave the area.
By 11:30 p.m., all bridges are expected to resume normal operations.
The fireworks show is set to begin at 9:45 p.m. July 4.
The city encourages people to follow the fireworks show’s Facebook page for updates.
The Sawdust Days festival, which typically surrounded Independence Day and the fireworks show, has ended.
Financial concerns have been cited by organizers in their decision not to continue.
