LITTLE CHUTE, WI (WTAQ) – The Fox Valley Metro Police Department says vandalism is spiking in the village of Little Chute.
According to Fox Valley Metro Police Officer Jeffrey Nett, the troubling trend at Heesakker Park is far from a prank.
“Recently we’ve taken two property complaints at Heesakker Park, where the bathroom dispensers were broken off and the people who did it tried to flush it down the toilet,” explains Officer Nett.
In fact, Heesakker Park isn’t the only local spot experiencing problems.
Vandalism has also been found at Doyle Park, which is just a couple of miles away.
“Someone took some clothing and lit it on fire, and it kind of did some damage to the tennis court,” he explains.
Officer Nett adds that the department is seeing damage like this on a weekly basis and it’s the reason they stepped up patrols at all parks in the village.
“We are kind of assuming this is happening at night so our night shift is constantly down there because our parks close at 11, so if they are down there it’s easy to make contact with them,” he says.
Little Chute’s Parks and Recreation Department hasn’t commented on the cost to repair the damage.
Residents of the area say this is a bad look for the community.
“Any vandalism anywhere is uncalled for and no reason for it. It degrades the park and the community, hopefully, they find out who it is and get a handle on it and it will stop,” says Kim Jansen.
Anyone with information about the recent vandalism should call police at (920)-788-7505.
