Bags of toys waiting to be opened and sorted
GREEN BAY, WI (WTAQ) — Volunteers acted as Santa’s helpers on Wednesday while sorting toys for the Toys for Tots program at the old Shopko building at the East Town Mall in Green Bay.
Community members have been dropping off new toys at local businesses in the area; now the sorting begins. Volunteer Lisa Labarge comes out to help every year with her coworkers.
“It’s just nice to give back to the local community.” said Labarge. “We get to see the benefits of it through the people that receive the gifts, and we know we’re giving back to a good cause.”
Toys are still able to be donated until December 12; with a preference for toys in the “tween” category for kids ages 8-12. Some of those gifts could include electronics, activity kits, and more.
Nan Pahl, Director of Social Services for the Salvation Army of Greater Green Bay, noted the importance of registering for this event. Walk-ins are not allowed.
“The families are signing up right now,” said Pahl. “When they sign up, they get a pre-assigned time for the parent to come shop for the toys for their children.”
